About me
Subbotin Serhiy
Software engineer and marine data analyst with a unique professional combination of maritime education, practical experience in navigation and expertise in the field of information technology.
The activity is focused on the development of analytical, reporting and security software solutions for the maritime industry, which help shipowners, captains and logisticians to increase the efficiency of voyages, safety of vessels and control fuel consumption.
Education and qualifications
In 2004, Serhiy received a full higher education at the Admiral Makarov Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University with a degree in “Software for Automated”, receiving a specialist diploma with honors.
In 2009, Serhiy completed his maritime education with a degree in “Ship Navigation”; at the Kherson State Maritime Institute, which became the basis of his professional activity in the maritime industry.
Professional Certifications
Serhiy holds numerous international certifications and has completed specialized training in the field of digital navigation, information and safety systems of the ship, as well as in cargo and operational processes, in particular:
- ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems) — basic and type- specific training in the operation of electronic cartographic and navigational information systems (IMO Model Course 1.27)
- Type Specific ECDIS Training (JRC, Kelvin Hughes / MantaDigital) — work with specific ECDIS models, configuration, monitoring and analysis of navigation data
- GMDSS — General Operator of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System
- Ship Management and Maneuvering (IMO Model Course 1.22)
- Advanced Training in Cargo Operations on Oil Tankers
- Advanced Training in Cargo Operations on Chemical Tankers
- Other confirmations of competence in navigation, radio communications, work with digital ship systems, cargo operations and vessel operation
These certificates confirm compliance with international STCW requirements and his ability to operate effectively with modern automated and digital vessel management systems in the international maritime environment.
Professional experience and contribution to the industry
Serhiy has many years of experience as a Software Engineer in the maritime industry, combining software engineering with a practical understanding of ship operations. Working directly on ships for international companies has given him a clear vision of how navigation, technical and safety systems work, as well as how operational data is generated and used in real-world conditions.
As a Software Engineer on board, he developed and implemented software solutions for analyzing voyages and fuel consumption, controlling ship efficiency, integrating ship data with shore-based systems, and preparing technical and management reports, which are expressed in software applications:
VEAM (Voyage Efficiency & Arrival Model)
a software product for predicting
the actual ETA and assessing the efficiency of the voyage
(Voyage Efficiency Index / VEI)
taking into account fuel, speed, engine operation,
weather conditions and port load, with
recommendations for reducing fuel consumption and increasing
the economic efficiency of the voyage
Serhiy is the author of the professional
Maritime Data Integration Methodology (MDIM),
dedicated to the integration and analysis of maritime operational data,
which describes practical approaches to using ship data
to improve safety, optimize routes and make
management decisions.
- software for the maritime industry
- data analytics
- maritime safety and automation systems
- optimization of voyages and fuel efficiency
ETA Calculator (Port Arrival)
A quick calculator for calculating the ship's estimated time of arrival (ETA).
